This morning, The Semiconductor Manufacturing Electronics (ShaoXing) Project (SMEC Project) started its ground breaking. Mr. Ma Weiguang, the Secretary of CPC Shaoxing Committee attended the ceremony and announced the start of work. Speech delivered by Mr. Sheng Yuechun, the Deputy Secretary of CPC Shaoxing Committee and the Mayor of Shaoxing Municipal People’s Government, and Dr. Zhao Haijun, the Executive Director and Co-Chief Executive Officer of SMIC. Mr. Tan Zhigui, Mr. Wei Wei, Mr. Xu Guolong and other city leaders also attended the ceremony.

With a total investment of 5.88 billion yuan, SMEC project is located in Gaobu Town, Yuecheng District, Shaoxing City. It covers a total area of 13.8 hectares and newly built a plant with a construction area of 146,500 square meters. The total construction land area in Phase I is 138,386 square meters, and it plans to build an 8-inch chip’s integrated circuit manufacturing production line and a module packaging production line.

The project will be capped in March 2019, equipment moved in in September, and officially put into production in January 2020. as well as a mass production of chips and modules for microphones, inertial, radio frequency, MOSFET and IGBT products.
